Services for Schools

The IB's Programme Standards and Practices standard A7 reads, "The school places importance on language learning, including mother tongue, host country language and other languages." One of the best ways an IB World School can show commitment to international-mindedness and support of mother tongue learning is to offer IB Language A: Literature SL as a School-Supported Self-Taught option.

Offering an SSST course can be a daunting task, particularly when it comes to the organization of the many elements of the program. Founded and developed by a DP Coordinator and language teacher, the SSST Coordinator service offers schools comprehensive and customized solutions to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality mother tongue support for students enrolled in SSST courses.

Schools New to SSST
For schools new to the SSST course, we are happy to arrange a no-obligation meeting to help explore how you can enhance your course offerings by making the Language A: Literature SL SSST course available to your students. We offer planning and consultation meetings with DP Coordinators at no charge.

Experienced SSST Schools
For experienced schools, we can help you explore how to streamline your processes by bringing SSST administration under a single umbrella. Some of the advantages we provide include:

interviewing, vetting, and support of highly qualified Language A: Literature teachers
language-specific reading schedules that help balance students' DP workload
a single service payment in your local currency; we handle payments to tutors
plans of 1, 2, 4, or 10 annual installments, payable by the school or directly by families
provision of complimentary virtual SSST information sessions for your DP families

Standard Services
Fee: USD $400 annually per student

Our service includes:

Preparation of an IB-approved and student-centered reading list based on student interests and passions
Preparation of reading and deadline schedules that take into account students' DP workload
Preparation, marking, and comprehensive feedback on three sets of mock exams over two years
Support for the planning and administration of the individual oral assessment

Enhanced Services
Fee: USD $675 annually per student

This service includes:

All features of the Standard service
Up to eight hours of virtual mother tongue tutoring over two years to review the results of mock exams and to prepare for final exams
Integration of the SSST course within your ManageBac account (optional)

Professional Services
Fee: USD $800 annually per student

This service includes:

All features of the Standard and Enhanced services
Procurement of reading material for the course, sent to your school or the student's home

Supplemental Mother Tongue Tutoring
Fee: USD $975 per semester per student

The best preparation for SSST examinations includes regular meetings with an IB Language A: Literature expert in the student's mother tongue. Our highly-experienced SSST Educators are available to work directly with students each week during the semester to supplement the above services. Tutors will schedule eighteen (18) one-hour sessions per semester to be conducted via Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, FaceTime, or another platform. During these sessions, our team of passionate SSST Educators will discuss literary works covered, support student progress toward assessment components, and be available for final preparation for SSST mother tongue exams.

Add-On Services
Fees per student:

Report Grades: USD $25 each
Predicted Grades: USD $25 each
Report Comments: USD $50 each

For students working regularly with a mother tongue tutor, we are pleased to support schools by providing report/predicted grades and academic report comments (100-200 words) for any number of marking periods.

Mother Tongue EE Mentorship
Fee: USD $250 annually per student

Students are eligible to write an extended essay in their mother tongue if they are capable of undertaking it as language A. If there is no internal member of staff who can competently supervise the extended essay process in their mother tongue, then the IB will allow for the student to work with an external mentor who fulfills the role of an extended essay supervisor. Mother Tongue Evaluation
Fee: USD $150 per evaluation per student

Prior to enrolling in a Language A course, schools may wish to conduct an evaluation of the student's suitability for pursuit of mother tongue studies. This two-part evaluation includes:

a written component based on textual analysis
an oral interview of approximately 45 minutes
